WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
Within diverse complex projects, you conduct applied scientific research into innovative solutions that make vehicles, ships and buildings a lot smarter. Think of a building that independently saves energy. Or a naval fleet that partly consists of self-propelled unmanned ships. You work together with your colleagues within and outside the project team, but also with customers and partners, for example from the business community.
When you start, we determine in consultation which projects you join. We naturally look at your interests and specialism. Techniques from artificial intelligence, mathematics, systems engineering, robotics and the internet of things; it all comes along. The great thing is that you see concrete results of your work. The prototypes that you co-develop are in many cases actually applied in practice.
In addition to your research tasks, you write articles about your field, for example in the context of a conference. And you play an important role in innovating the field and directing the department.

WHAT DO WE ASK OF YOU?
You are a creative, curious and innovative researcher who likes to unravel and analyze complex problems. You know better than anyone the essence. You also stimulate collaboration, both with your colleagues and with partners in the field. You are also someone who naturally pulls the cart, guides less experienced colleagues and initiates improvements. What else do you have at home?
- A university master’s degree in technical education, such as mathematics, physics, artificial intelligence or computer science.
- Minimum of five years work experience and preferably a promotion in your field.
- Experience with hybrid artificial intelligence and the design of unmanned and autonomous systems. This allows you to see which combination of different AI techniques and system architecture is a promising solution for a problem.
- Preferably experience with programming languages, such as C, C ++, Java and Python.
- Affinity with the domain of defense and security.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR WORKING ENVIRONMENT?
Unmanned and autonomous systems can no longer be ignored in our society. Drones, robots, self-driving cars, smart factories, intelligent sensor networks, smart grids and so on. The Intelligent Autonomous Systems department conducts research into the underlying technology of these types of systems. With practical demonstrators and prototypes, we help customers to develop new products and solve social issues. Our automation makes it possible, for example, for navy ships to sail with smaller crews. That unmanned systems can be used together as a swarm. Or that buildings and data centers learn for themselves where they can save energy. Our more than forty professionals work closely with government, industrial partners and universities.

WHAT DOES THE PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
The application procedure consists of two rounds of interviews. In a third and final interview we discuss the terms of employment that you compile yourself. We aim to complete the entire procedure within four weeks.
